About the College of Music

Peter King College of Music is the first privately-owned college of music with residential facilities in Nigeria and was founded in 1982. It is fashioned after the prestigious Trinity College of Music, London, United Kingdom, and Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

The proprietor is the famous jazz artist, Peter King, who is a product of both Trinity College of Music and Berklee College of Music. Berklee College of Music has produced superstars like George Benson, Lionel Richie, and Quincy Jones. Peter King College of Music has also produced stars such as Aa and Lagbaja.

Peter King College of Music presently runs a two-year diploma programme. We now hope to make available a Bachelor of Music (B. Mus) Programme, as an internationally-recognized professional degree.

Peter King (b. 1938) is a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, best known as an tenor saxophonist playing a combination of Highlife, Jazz and Funk. Peter King is perhaps better known in Europe and America than in Nigeria for his "Miliki Sound" on the record "A Soulful Peter King", where he played popular classics such as "Sincerely", "We Belong Together" and "Just Because".
