History

After several years of planning, the Peter King College of Music (PKCM) was established in 1982. In actuality, the groundwork work began ten years earlier, and when the school opened in May 1982, the gap in the music industry that the school had previously anticipated was finally filled. In the past, some attempts to introduce our youth to systematic education in some aspects of music have been made. Despite the youths’ enthusiastic response, the concerned institutions have, for one reason or another, been unable to sustain the momentum with which they began and have mostly fallen by the wayside.

For the first time in Nigeria and much of Africa, we have created a complete music school for our youth that is comprehensive and elaborate in course content and design as the Trinity or Royal College of Music in London or the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
